Following our elephant trek on our second day, we set up in our rafting camp, sharing the large hut seen below. The nights were amazingly cold, as we all (but for the better prepared Glenn and Debbie) complained of the cold, cold nights of sleep.

Day 3 was also a blast as we spent 4 or more hours rafting down the river, stopping at hill tribe villages along the way. Here Kelly and Rich appear with their able guide, Sith.
Sith pilots the raft with his long bamboo pole. The river was shallow, allowing the raft to be propelled and directed by the use of bamboo poles by a person at the front and rear of the raft.
Kelly enjoys the relaxing day on the water. Each of the bamboo rafts was roughly 30 feet in length and 4 feet wide. They were also remarkably stable, as we occasionally made our way through mild white water and navigated many rocks and boulders.
Water buffalo were a familiar site along the river's banks. Here they are eyed by Glenn and Natan.
Another familiar site was elephants along the banks, working away not carting tourists, but moving logs and engaging in other labor in lieu of heavy machinery.
