2 Go Utah
Up Zion National Park Arches National Park

And the Most Underrated State of the Union Award goes to..

We were absolutely blown away by the natural beauty of Utah.  From the snow capped peaks in the north to the colorful red canyons and arches of Moab in the east to the jagged mountains of Zion in the southwest, we were continuously treated to breathtaking scenery and the beautiful silence of the off-season .

Our first tourist stop in Utah was the Bryce Canyon National Park.  We entered the park through a natural red gateway appropriately named Red Canyon.

Bryce Canyon was named after a Mormon settler who described the natural phenomena as "a hell of a place to lose a cow".  Well, is he right or is he right?

Bryce Canyon is distinguished by its interestingly shaped "hoodoos" which have been defined as a pinnacle or odd shaped rock left standing by forces of erosion caused by more than  200 days of freezing temperatures.  "Hoodoo" rhymes with "Voodoo" which has been defined as something that causes bad luck.

We took a steep hike 200 feet down into the canyon from Sunset Point.

This canyon has been named Wall Street because of the 800 year old fir trees which tower up skyward from the bottom of the canyon.

We could have stayed in Bryce for days, but Vegas was calling.
Follow us to Las Vegas, Nevada and we will return to Utah a little later to see the amazing Zion National Park and Arches National Park in Moab.

(If you would like to see the Zion and Arches now, feel free to go to the top of the page to choose either destination.)
