Toiletries are very heavy. However, as we are discovering on the
road, it is important to purchase these items in the United States, as certain
items are difficult to come by on the road. Here is a view of the toiletry kits
that we finally ended up taking. Next to each item in our lists we will
tell you whether the item has been really necessary (so far - 3 whole days into
the trip).
Toilet paper: So so necessary in South America as most
bathrooms do not have it!! If they do have it, it is very
rough. We brought two rolls of very soft t.p. and we are trying to use it
very sparingly.
Shampoo and Conditioner: Necessary.
Soap: Necessary
Razor: Not absolutely necessary...but nice to have!
Brush: Necessary
Toothbrush, toothpaste and floss: Not so necessary (Just
Kidding!)
Hair bands: Necessary if you are a little princess like
Kelly. But really- it saves time and hassle if you don't have a blow dryer
or curling iron. Besides, Rich needs one now too.
Aspirin: Very necessary, especially when you are dealing with the
altitude of the Andes mountains like we are.
Antibacterial hand sanitizer: Oh so Necessary!
Vitamins: Very necessary as it is difficult to maintain a balanced
diet when you cannot eat fresh fruits out of fear of the Revenge de Montezuma!!
(Like the guy down the hall from us!)
Contacts and contact solution: Kelly has not worn her contacts
yet. Rich has.
Deodorant: Very necessary..especially when you are not showering
every day.
Rubber bands: Nice to have for organizational purposes and
certainly doesn't way anything..
Sewing kit: Not necessary yet, but it is recommended so we will
keep it in there.
Lotion: Necessary, especially for sunburn.
Sun screen: Absolutely necessary
Q-tips: Necessary.
Bug Spray and Lotion: Necessary
Antibiotics and other medicines: Necessary because the Travel
Clinic says it was and we are going to take their word for it.
Plastic Zip Lock Baggies: Necessary--if your shampoo leaks and gets
all over your other stuff, you are bumming!
