So exactly where are we going and where have we been?

Here is where you can find our proposed (what we are using for planning) and actual (where we actually went) itineraries, together with maps of the destinations to which we are traveling.

From experience we can tell you that deciding where to go, and when, was the part of the planning we enjoyed most.  The world is a veritable smorgasbord of destinations and attractions, and considering them, and imagining being there, is great fun.  We read and read  (we are now the proud owners of more Lonely Planet Guidebooks than we care to count.  See their web site:  www.lonelyplanet.com.), watched the Travel Channel (see their web site at www.travelchannel.com), talked with every traveler that would listen to us, and surfed the internet incessantly, trying to narrow down the destinations.

One inherent truth that we accepted early on, and that is absolutely necessary for any fellow traveler (regardless of the scope of the proposed journey) to similarly accept, is that you can't see it all.  Accept that principle and you make informed choices about your destinations and enjoy spirited, occasionally restful, travel.  Contravene that principle and your travels will degenerate into a frenetic blur of sights and sounds, with no time for real understanding or true appreciation.  And certainly no time for real relaxation.  Travel is stressful enough without adding to it self-imposed demands that unrealistically dictate that more sights and countries, rather than less, need to be enjoyed.  Sometimes, less is more.  Of course, this may not sound convincing from a couple whose proposed itinerary includes upwards of 40 countries and 6 of the 7 continents.  Oh well.
