No trip is worth sacrificing, or compromising upon, your
health or safety. Fortunately,
with careful research and preparation, and
the assistance of professionals who are trained and equipped to keep
you healthy while you travel, going to far-away lands does not have to involve
unreasonable risk to your health.
This is not to say that traveling, let us say, in India
will present the same risks to our health as does traveling here in the United
States. Clearly, we are more apt
to get sick in India (perhaps Delhi Belly, not unlike Mexico's famed
Montezuma's Revenge). Rather,
what can and must be done by all travelers is to understand, on a country by
country basis, the risks that will be faced, the likely sources of such risks,
and what can be done to minimize the possibility of exposure to such risks.
With that in mind, adequately preparing for this trip medically was, in many respects, the most critical part of our pre-departure preparation. Here we'll explain to you what we did and why.
We've organized this topic as follows:
Go
2 Travel Clinic. It
is always a good idea that foreign travel of any type be preceded by a trip to
a Travel Clinic. As medical
professionals who make it their business to help you protect your health when
you are overseas, they are a valuable resource that must be engaged;
preferably many months in advance of planned travel, as some immunizations
require, for maximum effectiveness, a series of shots over 2 or more months.
We worked with the Peachtree Travel Clinic, most notably with Jessie
Mullins, here in Atlanta and they provided us a wonderful service.
Hey Jessie! Thanks again!

Go. "Like,
how many shots did you have to get?"
Well,
like, we got a lot. Here we tell
you which ones and why.
An important part of our preparation was the assembly of our first aid kit. To see what is in it and why, click here:
