Italia. Famous for so many things: pizza, spaghetti, gelati, Rome, Venice, Florence, the Pope, Caesar, the Mafia, amazing art, and vibrant culture and communities. We came here from Santorini, Greece, flying into Rome on trusty "Blue Panorama" airlines (an Italian company that caters to package tourists from Italy). The flight, while more expensive than the 48 hour ferry, bus, and train combination we would have had to endured to get to Italy from Greece, was well worth the cost. Upon arrival in Rome, we traveled by train straight to Naples. We have been able to sample a good bit of the country. We began in the south--Naples--and work further south from there into Sicily, before returning to Rome to meet our Aunts (Maureen and Doreen) for a Italian holiday. From Rome, we ventured into the hill towns of Assisi, Siena and the Tuscan city of Florence. We ended Maureen's and Doreen's tour in the charming city of Venice. After we said goodbye to them, we relaxed in the Chianti region, which included a delicious dinner with Mark and Chris Kaufman. These are friends in Atlanta that we happened to run into in Siena.
